写真の通り、初期のものと後期のもの（左側後期、右側前期）ではコーティングが変わっているが、実際の描写に、差は感じられない。完全逆光で、初期のものは盛大にゴーストが出るが、或いは後期型の方が少ないのかもしれない。

Ｒライカマウントでは、唯一の２１ミリということで近年人気が再燃しているが、結像面での解像力では、１９９０年に発表された１９ミリの方が優れている。

This lens bears a fabulous 'Super-Angulon' name which becomes a key-word for the great wide angle lens because of Super-Angulon 21mm/f4 for Leica M. Due to its non-retro construction, it provides a crisp and clear image directly to the film. However, the lense discussed here is a retrofocus version of it. Same characteristics such as high contrast and crisp image at the centre can be seen. Distortion is well corrected.

Close-up focusing distance reaches to 20cm which is a great advantage for the photographer. To obtain the maximum result from this lens you need to stop-down well.

カメラに装着した感じも、いかにも広角らしい姿で安心して（但し、ゴーストには注意）使えるレンズである。会員の方からの報告では、純正フィルターでは、ゴーストが出やすいようである。

技術の進歩によって、小口径の超広角が主流となりつつあるが、このレンズと１９７５年に発表された１９ミリにフードを装着した姿は感動的ですらある。

フード装着時にフォーカス・リング操作がチョットやりにくくなるが、Ｍ型用の同名レンズの絞りリングの扱いにくさ程ではない。

Nice looking when mounting to the camera with its dynamic lenshood. The lens is not a ghost-free particullary when the Leica's filter is on it according to the report provided by RLFC member.

Focusing become a little bit delicate when the lenshood is attached due to a little clearance between hood and focus ring but far better than its M namesake.
